Skin Care Treatments Review at Blue Medi Spa
Written By: Jaye Younkin
If you live around Sherman Oaks or have spent time window shopping down Ventura Boulevard, then you must have seen the electric blue facade of Blue Medi Spa at 14622 Ventura Boulevard. It’s tempting, when you have extra time on the meter to want to poke around inside, or at least stand outside the spa to read all of the information in the window that lures you to make an appointment. High maintenance gals, who love regular manicures, brow waxes, and facials, can easily get excited by taking treatments to another level – a medi spa treatment, that combines health and beauty with cutting-edge science and impeccable service, is a whole different experience – perfect for someone who takes both health and appearance seriously. LEFAIR was curious about what it all entailed, so thank you Blue Medi Spa for the opportunity to try out the amazing services and share the experience with our readers!
Blue Medi Spa is an incredibly personalized experience, which is so important when specialists are making recommendations about how to improve both the look and health of your skin. There’s always that fear that you’ll leave a spa looking different rather than better and healthier, so going somewhere trustworthy is key. The first step? Using the Visia machine for a complete complexion analysis. All you do is comfortably rest your forehead and chin into place, and the machine takes high quality crystallized images from different angles of your face. The images are then compared against thousands of people in the world who share your same skin color and properties and to specific research categories like spots, wrinkles, texture, pores, UV spots, brown spots, red areas, and porphyrins (pigmentation). While this is kind of like your worst nightmare (seriously, who wants to see their skin that up close and personal), it is also eye opening and motivating to be proactive about taking care of your skin.
My “pores” percentage was 1% which means that compared to everyone studied with the same skin color, this was way below average— actually, 1% is the lowest it could be, with 100% being the best. After consulting with the team of aestheticians, we agreed that a microdermabrasion and laser genesis would be best for tightening up those pores.
Racquel Crownover, Blue Medi Spa’s master aesthetician, conducted microdermabrasion first which is like an intensified facial with a machine that literally sucks out all of the dirt from your pores. The little instrument wand she used from DiamondTome had a bumpy diamond tip which simultaneously sucked and exfoliated the skin. Imagine a small vacuum on your face scrubbing away dead skin cells. Racquel’s professional opinion regarding facials vs microdermabrasion is simply that microdermabrasion is more effective, averaging only about $50 more than a facial for longer lasting results. After she went through every area of my face a couple times, she showed me the filter from the little vacuum that had sucked out from my pores and I was horrified! But I was also highly relieved that all that gunk, from makeup residue, dirt, and oil that sneaks its way into our pores throughout the day was now gone, leaving me with skin as soft as a baby’s bum.
The next treatment was done by Christine Danisan, a registered nurse, who did laser genesis, which was a little more intense than the microdermabrasion, maybe because my skin was raw and sensitive at that point. Laser genesis uses non-invasive laser technology to treat skin problems such as aging, large pores, texture, acne scars, rosacea and sun damage. While my pores were at a lowest of the low 1% on the Visia machine, my skin texture was a close second at 14%, so this was perfect for me. The treatment promotes collagen production which is the main protein found in the skin. Goggles are worn to protect the eyes. The laser is slowly applied onto the surface of the skin, which felt like getting zapped with tiny lightning bolts. The heat from the laser reaches all the way down to the deeper skin layers to produce collagen and is also effective in getting rid of redness by transferring collagen to dilated capillaries. It was bearable, and worth the smaller pores, but slightly uncomfortable especially around sensitive areas like the eyes and nose. Christine warned that if I smelled something burning, it was just a little peach fuzz and nothing to be concerned about.
Other clients talked with their aestheticians about which products would be best for their skin and the team of professionals offered advice on how to improve problem areas. The experience was so eye opening to learn what my skin was trying to communicate to me and what it needs more or less of. Not only does Blue Medi Spa specialize in skin care and laser treatments, but it also offers a variety of injectable and body contouring services.
We always promote self-love at LEFAIR whether that means accepting what you were born with, investing in self care, or changing something you’ve always been self conscious about. Do whatever makes you feel confident, beautiful, and healthy! Blue Medi Spa says it best, “Blue is a promise to yourself to be as beautiful as ever, inside and out. It’s saying ‘yes’ to being good to yourself, always. Above all, it’s an affirmation of ageless beauty.”
